Artist, environmentalist, gardener, and instructor of nearly lost bodywork modalities.
Bodywork was not something I chose. Bodywork chose me and its a long story but basically I began my career in bodywork in 1997 working as something like an apprentice to Ronald Spilker with my husband Gordon. Together we learned what was to become Enertropic Therapy. At the time we were working with Ron and Alice Laule M.D. at her alternative health clinic. We worked at Harrison Optimal Health for 2 years where we did pain therapy with patients doing Enertropic therapy. During this time I also taught yoga and nutritional workshops and began documenting and developing classes for Enertropic Therapy. Alice, Gordon and I taught 4 Enertropic Therapy workshops during this time to the general public as well as massage therapists and chiropractors.I graduated from the Northwest Arkansas School of Massage in 1999 and then later received my Master of Massage license in 2000. This allowed me to teach at the Northwest Arkansas School of Massage in Fayetteville where I taught the bulk of 4 massage classes over a 3 year period. I received my Massage Therapy Instructor license in 2002 and late that year the Fayetteville school closed. In early 2004 I taught the first 100 hours of Swedish massage at the reopened school in Eureka Springs. The next two years I spent improving my skills by working on clients taking classes and trading work with my instructor from the massage school Rebecca A. Jackson. In late 2004 Becky and I went to London, England for 3 weeks to teach a class in the Stephenson Method for Dr. Gowri Motha and her staff of midwives and therapists. Dr. Motha is an ObGYN who has developed the Gentle Birth Method and has delivered babies all over the world. She uses the Joseph B Stephenson Method of Creative Healing in her practice and also teaches classes for use in pregnancy. After London I felt I was ready to accept my teaching certificate for the Stephenson Method and became one of two people to receive such an honor in over 15 years. Charles Harper and I were now qualified to teach the entire 100 hour intensive class and certify other instructors. Since 2004 Gordon and I have had our own practice in Fayetteville and I've taught continuing education classes for massage therapists in Enertropic Therapy, the Stephenson Method, yoga and the type of swedish massage I learned from Becky.
Techniques use used include: Swedish massage, Enertropic Therapy, Soft Tissue Release, Reflexology, essential oils, Hot Stones, the Stevenson Method and, Trigger Point Therapy. The Joseph B. Stevenson method of Creative Healing is an integral part of Dr. Gowri Motha's Gentle Birth Method. |
